Jailbreak guide for iPhone 3G 3.1.3/4.0 Firmware

Warning!

There is a method going around a number of unscrupulous forums and blogs that advertises a jailbreak for 4.0.  The company is IPhoneLand and the software is iPhonia.

This software is a scam!  It does not jailbreak 4.0, and it does not work as indicated.  Additionally, we’ve been told of numerous complaints about there being no customer service and no repsonse to refund requests.  Avoid this company at all cost!

Below is a copy of the IPhonia method that is being passed around.  It does not work!  Do not buy it!  It is a scam!

Guide:

Recall that Iphonia is only for Windows.

1. Start Iphonia (As a reminder, when you use Vista or Windows7 you must start the application in administrator mode, clicking the right mouse button on the icon and selecting “Run as administrator”) and connect iPhone via USB to your PC.
2. Click on the arrow to advance to the next step.
Here we have the possibility to choose between simple mode and expert mode: click on the expert mode and continue.
3. At this stage, we must choose the firmware: click on “Browse” and select the 3.1.3 firmware, then click “Open.” The application automatically detects your iPhone.
4. At this stage you can customize the firmware installed on our unit. Click “General” and then click the arrow to continue.
5. Now we are faced with the following screen:
Here:
* If you have an iPhone 3G/3GS Official: Do not select “Activate iPhone”;
* If you have an iPhone EDGE/3G/3GSnon Official: Select Enable iPhone;
* The root partition is modified according to your wishes.
When you customize your firmware, run the next step.
Iphonia will change the firmware to the 3.1.3 baseband am not updated so you’ll have the 3.1.3 firmware with the baseband of 3.1.2.
6. Select the method to unlock your iPhone:
For Your 2G iPhone, and select your BootNeuter 3G/3GS, Iphonia.
7. At this stage, we are faced with the choice of package manager to install: the choice between Cydia and Rock Your Phone. Needless to say, by experience, we recommend you select only the first packet.
8. It is time to select packages to include in your firmware. We can choose between:
* Pre-added packages;
* Manually add a package (this feature is not currently available);
* Added Deb file you have on your computer.
Obviously, you can just ignore and continue.

9. You can choose to use or not: a custom boot logo and activate the verbose mode, which allows to observe everything that loads at startup of the iPhone.
For a custom logo remember to observe the following characteristics:
* Only PNG files are accepted: 320 × 480 pixels;
* Maximum size of 100KB for boot logo;
* Must have at least one transparent pixel.
10. We finished with all the customizations! We can now proceed with the creation of the firmware, click “Build IPSW”.
11. After a few minutes to complete the previous step, we can close the application.
12. Just put the iPhone into recovery mode (or DFU, if applicable).

For the DFU mode:
* Turn off the camera when you are connected to your computer.
* Click the Home button + Power for 10 seconds, then release only the Power button while continuing to press the Home button.

For the recovery mode:

* Click on Home + Power until you see the cable and the iTunes icon on your screen. During this operation, the iPhone will reboot. Continue to press the keys, without ever releasing them up to this screen.

13. Open iTunes, a message will show you that your iPhone is in recovery mode, click OK.
14. Press the Shift key on your keyboard, click with the mouse on the Restore button in iTunes.
15. Select the firmware called “Iphonia_iPhone_XXX” and confirm.
16. After a few minutes to update the iPhone firmware 3.1.3 is warming up, your iPhone will be in 3.1.3 and Jailbreak unlock (Baseband from 3.1.2)
